Timmie our best friend, our companion of 12 years passed away. The grief I feel is deep and profound at his loss. His little soul filled our house and gave us a never ending love. While it was months ago now, we all still miss him.
I could go into detail about his life and at the end, the litany of things that went wrong such that his survival through the multiple surgeries was slim. But I won’t. His life was not like that. He had a huge presence for such a little friend.
I will share this; on the Tuesday before he died, our daughter had her legs up on the sofa doing work for uni with her laptop. Timmie came up, put a paw up on her leg and made it known that he was much more important. She gave in, and withing seconds he was laying on her lap, his head under her chin. “I love this poodle so much,” she said with utter love and conviction. On the Friday he was gone.
What Is It about Dogs?
Timmie was a poodle cross Lasa Apso. He came to us from a pet shop at only a few months of age and within hours, our house was his, our hearts were captured.
For twelve years Timmie was the foundation of our life. We’d regretfully leave him at home when we went out, then he would greet us on our return. I’d wake in the morning and Timmie would follow me into the kitchen looking for his morning treat. These and the thousand other small ways Timmie was part of our life meant he was a treasured part of the family.
What is it about dogs? They connect with us, they depend on us for their life and they give their love unconditionally.
