Ok, so what’s happening with ‘Richards Massive Publishing Empire’?
Short answer, is ‘quite a bit, but slowly.’
I have 3 titles almost ready to publish. Well, sort of. It depends on your definitions of ‘almost’ and then what is publish-worthy.
Why? Well, all this started in 2009 when I asked myself <to be revealed later> and just started jotting down notes, then ideas, then little short few-thousand word stories. Many were ‘Vignette Ideas’ I think I could call them with some accuracy. Over the years it grew without any form or design, it meandered.
Then one day I got the strange idea that others may be interested. I looked around, I had maybe 2.5 million words none of which was ever designed for publishing and all of a sudden the whole thing changed its focus. Instead of writing for fun, without any care, I had to change, to make it worthy to publish. That has been no small task, and will stretch the ability of the reader to swallow a few very big science fiction thingies.
What is Richard’s writing like? Pretty much like this blog I’d imagine. Written from the heart, rambling and seeking a direction, written without any great finesse or painful prose that takes super human effort to understand. Simplistic in other words. I like to think I have written to reduce the effort in transitioning between reading and dreaming. I don’t like words to get in the way of a good story. For me, the dream is what it’s all about.
If you can read what I’ve written (no small task) then dream with me, I would consider that a win.
So now over the last few months I’ve come up with three books that are approaching release and probably borderline readable. The last book of course is the closest to completion – I am in final editing. The middle book has the most action and is least ready. The first book is chaotic in its content and I want to publish it first of course. It needs a beating with a word-processor, a pair of scissors and all while if I was a drinking person, a lot of fine cognac.
Of course the books are not sequential (that would be too logical and sensible). Instead they are what I thought might be interesting and also what I have the most material for.
The Camper
This is the prequel of the whole Stellar Universe story with appearances by the first main protagonist and of course ‘others’ central to the whole story. There be spoilers in there.
Of course, this being science fiction, a huge amount of license has been taken in basically, well, everything.
If you can accept the ‘first premise‘ that there are civilizations on other planets and that we may meet them, well, you’re half way there.
Then if you can maybe get your head around the ‘second premise‘ that a new form of human life, a new genus, can sense and control their environment, well, that’s the second half of my Stellar Universe. That’s a big ask, trust me.
From those two ideas everything hinges, and then you may enjoy what I have created. Clearly it is fiction, but then so would be travel to the moon, electric light and the magic of radio, to a person a few centuries ago.
This book is sitting at about 43,000 chaotic words and counting. I’m toying with releasing this book for $1. I may change after a time, so get in early. If you like it, well, you get to pay me the price of a cup of coffee for the other books in the series. Is that fair? If you don’t like it then nothing much lost.
Damn. I just did it. I put it for pre order on Amazon, release on 12 Feb.
The race is on to get it cleaned up.
Ronnie
This is the third era protagonist, Ronnie’s era, and the first year of that time.
This book and its sequel in the same era are massively ‘pivotal’ times for the human race where acceptance of the ‘second premise’ and expansion off-planet are central themes.
They are also very action oriented compared to others (well, almost, smile!)
Jellz
Of course, this is the fifth era of the Stellar Universe. Here our protagonist finds that ‘everything has been done’ but then the cracks in the Stellar Universe become apparent. How can a perfect golden era exist? Why should it be allowed to exist? What is the hidden trap of such an era?
The sequel deals with the ‘first premise’ and the changes to the human race that brings.
What About The Missing Eras?
Ah. You noticed. There are books for Era-2 and Era-4 of course. They are a collection of rambling untamed words unfit even by my standards for publication.
So ends my first substantial post in this attempt at a blog.
